Care Instructions

Since our inception in the summer of 2010, we have tried and tested dozens of industrial finishes that are on the market, from varnishes and lacquer to water base polyurethane and oils. After years of research and testing, we have happily landed on a beautiful satin/matte finish from Rubio Monocoat. It is a low VOC and environmentally friendly hard wax oil made from natural plant oils and waxes.

Rubio has several additional features that make it stand out: 

• It showcases the natural color of the wood species and will not yellow over time.

• The feel of the finish is soft and elegant to the touch. 

• It will not crack, flake or peel over time. 

• Maintenance and spot repairs can easily be done in the home. 

• With the proper care, Rubio is resistant to water, juice, coffee, wine and beer spills. 

There are a few care points to consider as you maintain your furniture now and into the future: 

• During the first few days after receiving your furniture, avoid leaving anything (table runners, vases, books, etc.) on the surface. This will allow the finish to cure thoroughly and acclimate to the new environment. 

• For quick cleanups, a soft damp cloth will suffice. Please do not use cleaning products as they tend to soften and degrade the finish over time. Water and rag are the best for cleaning up spills, followed by a dry cloth to make sure no moisture is left on the surface. 

• We recommend using hot pads (trivet) under objects that contain heat and using coasters for glasses.
